- The impact on the environment
will be minimal and the initial construction phase
will see the majority of the tangible activity.
- Blasting for site preparation
will be carried out within the terms of the permission
granted in relation to noise, pressure and vibration.
- Within the terms of the
permission granted, it is considered that noise and
vibration impacts will be of limited and acceptable
levels. Blasts will be designed by Blast and Quarry
Services Ltd (BQS) to meet current regulations.
- Previously excavated material
has been tipped in various parts of the quarry
complex. This material will also be used in the
pre-construction phase to enable us to prepare a
suitable level for the proposed facility and also in
the construction on bunds along the upper extends of
the quarry walls. These will be planted in such a way
as to be sympathetic to the surrounding landscape and
will relate to the rural setting of the area.
- The duration of the
construction phase will be relatively short,
approximately six months, compared with the proposed
life of the facility
- Where periods of extended dry weather occur during
the construction phase, a water bowser will be
available for the routine damping of access routes to
suppress the release of dust.
- Early paving of the access
roads and the construction of the concrete base will
reduce the amount of loose material that could cause
dust during traffic movement.
- Construction will only take
place during the day. The existing quarry slopes and
the trees planted around the site will provide
acoustic barriers and attenuation, respectively. Plant
and machinery will be maintained in good condition and
noise damping will be used when necessary.
- The construction phase of the
proposal will generate traffic to and from the site
comprising delivery vehicles for construction plant
deliveries, ready mixed concrete, building materials,
process plant deliveries and vehicles associated with
construction, installation and commissioning personal.
- The following hours of operation during the construction period are proposed:
| Monday to Friday |
08:00 – 20:00 |
| Saturdays |
08:00 – 14:00 |
| Sundays |
Closed |
- The hours of operation of the
site during construction will limit noise and dust
nuisance associated with the works.
- Odours will be strictly
controlled through containment, forced aeration and
the use of bio filters where necessary.
- All waste delivered to the
site will deposited indoors, mixed and introduced to
the tunnels within two days, to reduce the
uncontrolled degradation of waste in the reception
hall.
- The reception area for
odorous wastes will be fully ventilated and operated
under negative pressure to collect odours from the
waste before it is treated in the tunnels. All process
air will pass through a dedicated scrubber and bio
filter before the air is finally discharged.
- Stationary plant and mobile
plant will be housed in acoustic enclosures to reduce
the noise levels from the plant to below permitted
limits.
- Site operations will only
take place during the day, precluding nigh-time noise
associated with vehicle movements on site and to and
from the site.
- Due to the location of the
aerated maturation floor within the confines of the
operational building its impacts are considered to be
sufficiently controlled so as not to be significant.
- All waste materials arriving
at the proposed facility will be unloaded indoors and
mixing and tunnelling of the waste will be carried out
as early as possible following its acceptance to avoid
or reduce any associated nuisance. Typically waste
will be moved in less than I hour of arrival.
- Birds are not expected to become a nuisance at the proposed facility as all organic wastes and final products will be maintained indoors.
