About Colin Glen Compost...
Our primary vision is to produce high quality organic composts which will be used in the horticultural, agricultural and forestry sectors

Our primary vision at Colin Glen Compost is to produce high quality organic composts which will be used in the horticultural , agricultural and forestry sectors. We will achieve this by using organic waste and processing it in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way possible.

CGC will work strictly within national and European legislation and guidelines.

An appropriately designed and located biological treatment facility meets many of the needs of the current regulatory and policy framework.

At national level the delivery of EU targets is a major priority of both central and local government. The CGC proposal represents an excellent opportunity for municipal and commercial waste producers to meet the needs of the Northern Ireland Waste Strategy and the regional waste plans.

At European level there is a clear endorsement for waste diversion from landfill, a preference for recycling of waste and concerns regarding the environmental fate of organic wastes that are landfilled. The CGC facility strictly meets each of these high EU level requirements.

The more local needs set out in the area plan and economic development strategy both appear supportive of new development provided that they are sustainable and sensitively created especially in important landscape areas.

The proposed composting facility at Glenside Quarry meets the requirements of the Waste Management Strategy for Northern Ireland and the arc21 Eastern Region Waste Management Plan and will also help achieve the goals and targets set out in the Biodegradable Waste Strategy for Northern Ireland.

There is a clear need for a facility of this nature in the area due to:

1. The requirement for a facility for recovery or treatment of organic wastes in the Eastern Region of Northern Ireland;

2. The requirement for the development of an in-vessel composting plant in the Eastern Region.

3. The requirement for additional organic wastes recovery/treatment facilities to be developed immediately in Northern Ireland.
